Health and I.T

Health and I.T

According to Mandel et al (2106) Fast Health Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is a platform which ensures all exchangeable healthcare content, clinical and administrative data,is readily available for use whenever and wherever needed for the care of patients. FHIR develops through various community processes that includes collaboration of organization for instance, “Integrating the Health Enterprise” which is a collaboration between industry leaders and healthcare stakeholders, together these groups build up existing FHIR standards through defining more accurate interoperability specifications for particular transactions. Communities work to produce and update FHIR standards by forming initiatives that help to leverage the standards of FHIR, by consistently deploying FHIR standards among data trading partners to ensure compatibility and also by developing systems that improve the workability of FHIR standards.

To achieve interoperability through its standards for instance, the technical standards which helps in defining structure, syntax and reliability of interoperable transactions both parties agree on means that can work best to enable the transfer data reliably and safely. They use semantic standards to preserve the meaning of data as it is stored from one organization to another by ensuring constant codes are used and they are directly translated for instance CDC codes which are widely used for vaccines and manufacturers. Process standards show how healthcare Content is to be used in the action paths of organizations, they also give required knowledge on the context within which data is being used therefore making the participants to grasp the exact concept an example is the Direct Project which uses stories (Mandel et al., 2016b).

The examples of events that are maintained in the FL7 calendar include: Da Vinci Education and FL7FHIR implementation event, Digital Quality Summit, Working Group Meeting, Applied FL7FHIR for software developers and the HL7V2 Advanced. These events are discussed below; Da Vinci Education and FL7FHIR implementation event. Its purpose is to educate the Health Information IT community on the guidelines of implementing FHIR, to help participants in preparing to meet FHIR implementation rules.the expected audience are peoples and organizations from HL7FHIR expertise levels, the intended outcome is to create awareness among the audience on federal interoperability and FHIR implementation rules (Bender and Sartipi, 2013a).

Digital Quality Summit, the expected audience of this event are all people from healthcare branches. The purpose of the event is to educate the attendees on how to improve the quality of exchanging information. The intended outcome is to enable attendees break implementation barriers and foster collaboration in advancing FHIR.

Working Group Meeting, the audience should be industry leaders and Healthcare IT community. The purpose of the event is to provide opportunity for international workgroups and leaders of industries to meet and work on improving working standards. Applied FL7FHIR for software developers. Attendees should be software developers and infrastructure architects. The purpose of educate participants on how to develop, design and test softwares that use FHIR standards that they have learned previously. The intended outcome is to address problems incurred in the process and provide the solutions (Bender and Sartipi, 2013b).

HL7V2 Advanced; this event’s audience includes anyone interested to become proficient in the HL7V2 especially engineers, business analysts and system designers. The purpose of the event is to educate V2 attendees on V2 messaging and how integration engines help in creating interphases. All these discussed events are run by HL7 working groups (Bender and Sartipi, 2013c).

It will be comfortable to participate in the event because based on my current carrier, engineering, I have some knowledge on engineering for V2 messaging.  I could also wish to participate in this event or some similar future event because I wish to gain extra skills based on my career for example how to build adapters for converting V2 messages to  FHIR (Del et al., 2012).
