The US Holocaust Museum: Center for the Prevention of Genocide

The United States Holocaust Museum: Center for the prevention of genocide

This is a museum dedicated to discouraging people from engaging in any activity that would fall within the scope of genocide. Genocide is understood to be any violent crime directed against a group with the intention of destroying the very existence of the group.

In appreciating past instances where people from different  countries have been subjected to genocide such as the Holocaust, the horrors of Rwanda, Srebrenica and Darfur; this museum is committed to ensuring that such occurrences do not occur.  It is for this reason that the museum does not only keep a record of past genocides with the intention of educating people on the evils of genocide, but also offers a platform where events that can trigger another genocide can be reported and arrested before getting out of hand.

The National Museum of the American Indian

This museum focuses on promoting the idea of a multifaceted and cultural enterprise.  The museum is home to some of the world’s most expensive Native artifacts belonging to the Native American Indian.

The National Museum of the American Indian is an institution specifically designed to promote and educate people on the culture of the Native American Indian. This is out of the realization that we are living in a society where the culture of Native Americans has come under threat of erosion. As such this museum works towards promoting the continuance of culture, traditional values and transitions in contemporary Native life.

Cultural diversity

The United States Holocaust Museum: Center for the prevention of genocide

The United States Holocaust Museum holds at its core the idea of promoting cultural pluralism. We live in a world where we interact with people from different races, people who hold different cultural beliefs and practices, and people who subscribe to different forms of religion; as such there is a need to promote and educate people on the need for tolerance in regards to these differences.

Tolerance stems out of the reality that humanity is by itself a race. As such there is a need for mutual respect and respect of life. This is enshrined in the Human rights. Human Rights are specifically designed to promote harmonious coexistence of people all over the world.

The National Museum of the American Indian

The preservation of the cultures of the American Indian is in itself a promotion of cultural diversity. The recent past has seen the American Indian culture come under threat of extinction. It is for this reason that the National Indian Museum, seeks to harmonize and offer Native American Indians as well people from other cultures a platform where they can learn and address their issues as Native Indians.

Cultural diversity offers the society a wide range of advantages. It is for this reason that people across the globe need to be educated on the need to maintain and exercise their culture without fear of intimidation and/ or discrimination.

New Ideas

The idea behind educating people on genocide; more so serving as a constant reminder of the people killed, maimed and forcefully ejected out of their properties, is not only efficient in stopping genocide but also successful given the fact that people get to enjoy the benefit of having a platform where any attempt to spark genocide will be thwarted.

The National museum of the American Indian

The idea behind maintaining and popularizing the culture of the Native Indian is brilliant. The museum not only protects traditional artifacts but also is committed to the continued sustenance of the American Indian culture. As such the relevance of the Museum is not only historic but focuses on maintaining their culture.

Perspective

A visit to the center for the prevention of genocide is mind blowing. This is because it opens up our minds to the destruction left behind by past genocide directed at people across the globe. Indeed genocide leaves behind irreparable destruction and scars amongst people in a society; scars of which remain fresh up to this day. It is for this reason that leaders, activists and people across the globe need to demand a strict adherence to human rights.

The National Museum of the American Indian

This visit was mind opening to the extent that I now appreciate the importance of  understanding the history of different cultures as well as promoting the idea of keeping culture alive. Maintaining the culture of the native Indian is not naïve. The notion that practicing different cultures is not only naïve but also misguided. There is a need to promote the continued exercise of the different cultures across the globe.

Evaluation

The American Holocaust Museum is a must go for all psychology students. The museum presents students with firsthand experience on the evil that man can unleash on fellow human beings. Further, the center that is dedicated to preventing any other genocide across the globe offers a platform for students to understand the root cause of genocide as well as understanding the mind and thinking process of a genocide perpetrator.
