The Problems in the Security System
The advancement in technology has brought about several improvements in other areas, including security systems. Security systems have been improved by adopting the latest technology as a way of boosting their performance. Currently, the security industry is maximizing the use of biometrics as a way of strengthening security. Notably, security systems are very important in any institution and homes nowadays. The availability of this system makes the institution safer. However, no matter how developed the security system available, there exist different challenges. Therefore, this paper works to present the problems that the security system continues to face. The security system is not 100% efficient. The equipment continues to face challenges that need to be rectified to keep the institutions and households safe.
Compatibility of the security devices is one of the major issues that face security systems (Lamb & Sweeney). Some security devices are not standardized to be produced in specific dimensions. Sometimes acquiring the devices from different manufacturers presents a compatibility issue. The different components making up the system fails to compact and thus may not be able to work together as expected. When faced with such situations, most people are forced to go for extra components that will be compatible with the rest. Such problems will be fixed by encouraging the production of standardized components. The production of the security devices needs to be standardized to enable the users to acquire compatible components irrespective of the manufacturer.
Additionally, a false alarm is another problem experienced in the security systems. Sometimes the security cameras pick a wrong alarm which may be irritating, especially when it occurs repeatedly. Bad alarms are normally detected during bad weather or when animals pass close to them. Notably, such problems normally occur due to poor installation process, extra sensitive sensors, or manufacturing problems. Therefore, to fix this problem, the user should reduce the sensitivity of the sensors. Similarly, it is also important for the institution using this security system to install a mask feature to minimize the motion detected in some areas of the organization.
The vulnerability of security systems is one of the major problems facing the security industry. Hackers and other cybercriminals can steal the camera footage and use them to monitor the steps and activities of the owner from a remote destination. Maintenance and reservicing of the security present another problem to the users (Liang et al.). The cost of maintenance is very high as one is forced to seek labor from experienced personnel as well as the spares to be replaced when the original components failed. Similarly, during maintenance, the area under the security cameras remains insecure as the equipment is uninstalled to be fixed. Therefore, to solve this problem, the institution should have backup security systems.
Furthermore, sometimes, the security systems fail to detect the changes within the surrounding (Xiaomei & Ke). This normally occurs in a situation where the sensors installed are not enough to cover the size of the area or when the sensors are poorly installed. When such things happen, some areas are left insecure. Therefore, to avoid this problem, it is important to procure the right security sensors and be installed to cover the right area coverage.
In conclusion, the security systems continue to face a lot of challenges, and this has lowered its efficiency. Solving these problems will be a mileage towards the improvement of security within the institutions and homesteads. The manufacturing, design, and functionality of the security systems need to be improved to enhance its reliability and efficiency.
