About
My name is [……]. I am a sophomore majoring in healthcare administration at (….University). I am fascinated with planning, coordinating, and directing healthcare services in community-based and public health organizations. Thus, healthcare administration sparks my interest as it is well aligned with the basic business background and public health. My goal is to serve the community by advocating for policies that reduce healthcare costs while improving efficiency, safety, and quality of care. As exemplified in my current work setting, I possess strong leadership and communication skills that are essential for a healthcare administrator to adequately meet the growing healthcare demands. I am attentive to detail and believes in efficiency, commitment, and dependability and I am passionate about health care. To me, these are crucial values as they promote professionalism and competence.
I am very collaborative and a team leader who have always embraced group work and partnerships. I have the ability to direct and work with cross-functional groups toward a common organizational objective. I am highly organized, creative and attentive to detail. Despite these strengths, however, I always tend to be a perfectionist and also too critical of myself. I have noticed that, in many aspects of my life, I am detail-oriented. Often, I feel I could have achieved more, albeit objectively, I have done well. This attitude has resulted in burnout in most cases, but now I have resolved into actively celebrating my achievements and appreciating both individual and team efforts. While striving for details has caused my colleagues to be stressed, in some instances, as it can threaten deadlines on project deliverables. I have learned that my actions and how I perceive things affects my team.
Career and Education Plan/Goals
Currently, my GPA is at 3.60. My immediate goal is to complete the bachelor’s degree and continue my education to postgraduate. I will utilize the University Writing Center and library as resources to enhance my communication skills and college success. In my senior year, I will remain focused on results and I want to graduate successfully. Additionally, I will mentor those in junior year and set my life goals before transitioning from college to work. While, my career plan is to secure employment at an organization where I am provided with an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. I intend to become an expert in the field, improve processes, and assume a top leadership position in health industry. Moreover, I would enjoy working in management that is focused on development and strategy implementation where I can build a solid career. My long-term career goal is to start and run my own business. To achieve these goals, I will become more proactive, get the required education and training and interact with professionals in the sector for mentorship. Networking and making connections with successful heath administrators can be supportive and enable me to achieve my goals. I chose to major in healthcare administration because it is fast-paced and exciting career with a distinctive set of responsibilities. It is my belief that this profession will provide me a chance to participate in advocacy and policymaking.
Campus and Community Connections
Other than academics, I am also involved in various extracurricular activities such as athletics, volunteer/service-related activities, and arts. Since middle school, I have been actively involved in marathon, sprint, and volleyball. At the university, I am practicing and working hard to represent the school in the intramural and intercollegiate athletics. Sports have provided me with an opportunity to interact and network with my varsity and nonvarsity peers. I have built community connections through volunteering in community service projects. Through sporting events in campus, I have learned to work in teams and understand and respect others’ from an etic perspective. Thus, the campus involvement has impacted my professional development as it given me an insight to value collaboration and partnerships.
In the previous Spring break, for instance, I volunteered in off-campus activities such as municipality cleaning, civic education on health, tree planting, and rebuilding homes. This events remains memorable because my team touched many lives. It was organized by the University’s department of community service and students volunteered to serve the community members. I learned that it is worth to give back to the community as it touches lives and increases engagement with the community members. Service to the community relates to my future professional and career goals in healthcare administration as it involves management of healthcare to improve access and improve patient outcomes. I feel that volunteering in community service provides individuals with a sense of belonging and enables one to know his/her community in a better way. Furthermore, I have also enjoyed campus experiences about multicultural activities as they increase students’ awareness and understanding of diverse cultures and racial backgrounds. Each, my university usually sponsor concerts, festivals, discussions, and lectures focused on raising multicultural awareness and promoting inclusivity. I am also in the school environmental club where we make efforts to create a sustainable and eco-friendly environment within the college and the surrounding community via civic education.
