Information Systems Knowledge and Business Analytics
I visited the job-posting website Careerbuilder.com and found that many jobs in business and management require some knowledge of information systems. The three jobs that I found that need the most knowledge of information systems are in the fields of accounting, finance, and marketing.
In accounting, I found a job position as an accounting analyst for business and financial operations and I found a job at a company in Indianapolis. In addition, I found a job posted by Maximus Co. for a position as a financial analyst. The position in accounting requires knowledge of financial accounting software, while the job of finance requires knowledge of investment software (Stair and Reynolds, 2016). Lastly, I found information on a full-time marketing assistant job posted by Monument Marketing Group in Wilmington.
All these jobs require some knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, and word processing. Individuals interested in these positions should have at least a basic understanding of these types of software. Furthermore, it would also be beneficial to have some knowledge of the specific software used by the company to which one is applying (De Mauro, Greco, Grimaldi and Ritala, 2018). It is also essential to have strong communication and interpersonal skills, as many of these jobs require regular interaction with other employees, customers, and clients.
The accounting analyst position in Indianapolis requires one to have a great deal of expertise in bookkeeping, accounting, and taxation. To do their job correctly, accounting analysts need to use various software programs to keep track of a company’s finances. They also need to have a strong understanding of how information systems manage a company’s finances (Stair and Reynolds, 2016). For instance, they need to know how to use accounting software to track income and expenses and use financial analysis software to decide where to invest a company’s money. Such software may include QuickBooks, MYOB, Xero, and Sage.
The position of financial analyst in Maximus company requires a strong understanding of economic analysis and the software programs used to do this type of analysis. Interested applicants need to be able to use these programs to evaluate a company’s financial statements and make recommendations about how to improve the company’s financial health. In addition, they need to have a good understanding of information systems to understand how financial data is stored and accessed. For instance, they need to know how to use a data warehouse to store and retrieve financial data. Examples of software used in finance are Microsoft Excel, Tableau, and SAP.
The position of full-time marketing assistant requires one to have full sales and marketing skills. To prepare for this job, a strong understanding of marketing and financial management skills to assist the managers in recommended investments in the company is essential (Financial Analyst Responsibilities | University of Maryland, 2022). It would be also beneficial to be proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
To prepare for these jobs, employees would need to receive training on the specific information systems used by their employer. In addition, they would also need to develop strong analytical and problem-solving skills (De Mauro, Greco, Grimaldi and Ritala, 2018). Detailed job-related information would include understanding the company’s accounting and finance systems, sales and marketing databases, and other relevant data. For example, an accountant would need to know how to input and retrieve data from the company’s financial accounting software. In contrast, a finance manager would need to know how to use the investment software to track and manage the company’s portfolio (Turban, Pollard and Wood, 2018). Alternatively, they could complete a certificate program in information systems or take individual courses to gain the necessary skills (Greer, 2001). A sales representative would need to know how to use the customer relationship management software to track customer interactions, while a marketing researcher would need to know how to use market research software to collect and analyze data. applicants would need to receive training on the specific information systems used by their employer.
To sum up, all employees in the accounting, finance, and marketing docket need to understand and interpret data, identify trends, and make recommendations based on their findings. Individuals interested in pursuing these types of careers should consider enrolling in a degree program that provides training in business administration with a focus on information systems. Many employers also provide on-the-job training in information systems for their employees. Employees would need to be able to use computers and various software applications to perform their job duties effectively. Firstly, they should focus on developing their skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Secondly, they should become familiar with the company’s information systems and learn how to use them to access the data they need. Finally, they should keep up to date with new developments in information technology so that they can make recommendations for improvements to the company’s systems.
